Mark with Apple Pencil

Apple Pencil lets you annotate the exact place where feedback belongs while Nib records the structured mark separately. Use handwriting for location and explanation; use the score control for the official question mark.

Open the answer you want to mark

Choose an assessment, enter the marking view and open a question. In question-by-question mode, Nib presents the same question for each student so the mark scheme stays fresh in your mind.

Zoom or pan until the answer is comfortable to read. The score, mark scheme and feedback controls stay connected to the current response.

Add an annotation

1. Select the pen tool

   Choose the ink control and set a colour and thickness that remain clear without covering the student’s work.

2. Write on the script

   Tick evidence, circle an error, underline a key phrase or add a short prompt beside the relevant line.

3. Record the score separately

   Use Nib’s score keypad or rubric control for the awarded mark. This keeps totals and analysis dependable.

4. Move to the next answer

   Check the annotation once, then continue. Nib saves the edit on the iPad as you work.

Use reusable feedback when it fits

For comments you write repeatedly, use a snippet or stamp and adapt it to the answer. Apple Pencil is strongest where the feedback needs to point to a precise line, symbol or step in the student’s working.

Correct an annotation

Use undo for the most recent stroke or the eraser for a specific mark. Check that the official score still matches your final judgement after making a correction.

If Apple Pencil does not respond

1. Confirm that Pencil works in Apple Notes.
2. Check its charge and Bluetooth connection.
3. Make sure an annotation tool is selected rather than a navigation control.
4. Close and reopen the current script if the canvas has stopped responding.
5. Restart Nib and include your iPad and Pencil models when contacting support.
